IEP drafting from the FIE

Start the IEP from the FIE, not a blank form

Cited IEP drafts in TEA Model IEP Form order, ready for your ARD committee to review.

SpEd Insight™ drafts the IEP from the student's FIE and shows the FIE passage behind each section. You review, edit, and confirm. The ARD committee decides.

AI draft · Present levels, reading

Student A reads grade 3 passages with support and is building skill in decoding multisyllable words.

Source: FIE, Reading achievement section (sample)

Illustration. Sample data – fictional students. The dashed box marked ‘AI draft’ is a draft the educator still needs to check.

The problem

  • The same facts get retyped from the FIE into the IEP.
  • Turning an FIE into a PLAAFP and goals takes careful work.
  • ARD prep runs on deadlines.

How it works

  1. Start from the student's FIE (the demo uses a fictional FIE).
  2. The AI drafts each section, in TEA Model IEP Form order, citing the FIE.
  3. You edit and confirm.
  4. Your ARD committee reviews and decides.

How drafts work

Every draft cites its source, and the educator confirms it. AI drafts are proposals for your ARD committee, including the parent, to review and decide.

Privacy. When a district signs the Texas Student Privacy Alliance's Standard Student Data Privacy Agreement (TX-NDPA), SpEd Insight will work with that district's student records as a school official under the district's direct control over how the records are used and kept. We will use student data only to provide the service to that district, will not re-disclose it except as the district directs or the law allows, and will never sell it or use it for advertising. No student data will be loaded until your district signs the TX-NDPA.

Security. SpEd Insight is being built around NIST CSF 2.0; AWS US; only HIPAA-eligible AWS services; encryption in transit and at rest; MFA. SpEd Insight is built for sign-in with your district's Google or Microsoft account. Multi-factor authentication will be required for every account before any student data is loaded.

AI for IEP drafting in Texas

SpEd Insight starts the IEP from the student's FIE and lays the draft out in TEA Model IEP Form order. Every section shows the FIE passage behind it, so you can check each line before you confirm it.

Questions to ask about any AI drafting tool

  • Does every line cite its source?
  • Does the educator confirm each draft?
  • Is your district's TX-NDPA signed before any student data loads?

What AI should never do

Decide for the ARD committee. AI drafts are proposals for your ARD committee, including the parent, to review and decide. Read more in our guide, AI in Texas special education: what to ask first, and see how we will handle student data.

Parent ARD prep sheet, in English and Spanish

The Spanish version is checked against a Spanish glossary of special education terms and a back-translation, then reviewed by the case manager before anyone shares it. Nothing is sent automatically.

Questions

Who finalizes the IEP?

Your ARD committee.

Does it follow the TEA Model IEP Form?

Drafts are laid out in TEA Model IEP Form order.

How do I know what the AI wrote?

AI drafts are clearly labeled 'AI draft', and each section cites the part of the FIE it came from.

What's coming next?

The full ARD packet, PWN, REEDs, and accommodation one-pagers. Each is labeled Coming until it's built.

Can I put student information in this?

Not on this website. In the app, student data will be loaded only after your district signs the TX-NDPA.

What about student privacy?

When a district signs the Texas Student Privacy Alliance's Standard Student Data Privacy Agreement (TX-NDPA), SpEd Insight will work with that district's student records as a school official under the district's direct control over how the records are used and kept. We will use student data only to provide the service to that district, will not re-disclose it except as the district directs or the law allows, and will never sell it or use it for advertising. No student data will be loaded until your district signs the TX-NDPA.
